![]() ![]() In the episode’s ending, Morty admitted that his greatest fear was being replaceable to Rick. Rick has always been more powerful than Morty, but “Fear No Mort” saw Morty finally face up to his part in the pair's toxic dynamic. Fortunately, season 7, episode 10, “Fear No Mort,” addressed the power imbalance between Rick and Morty, something that has simmered in the background of the series since Rick first stormed into Morty’s room in the pilot’s cold open. While Evil Morty’s Rick was worse than most incarnations of the character, Evil Morty wasn’t wrong when he warned Morty that every version of their grandfather was relatively similar. Shortly before Rick and Morty season 7 killed off Rick Prime, episode 5, “Unmortricken,” revealed that Evil Morty became a villain thanks to Rick’s constant abuse. While the show usually plays this dynamic for laughs, it can have serious consequences. However, Rick doesn’t react well to these attempted mutinies. On occasion, Morty has challenged Rick as he did in season 7, episode 6, “Rickfending Your Mort,” wherein Morty demanded an adventure of his choosing after assisting Rick with dozens of his errands. ![]() The Adult Swim series has always seen Rick manipulate Morty and the antihero’s superhuman intelligence, combined with Morty’s naïveté, means Rick always has the upper hand. Rick and Morty have never had a balanced relationship. While Rick and Morty’s season 7 finale didn’t change the show’s entire premise, the episode did finally address an issue that has plagued the series since its pilot. ![]()
